How Do Bees Make Honey?
WALT: write an explanation about how bees make honey
Did you know that one bee has to fly about ninety thousand miles three times around the globe to make one pound of honey? The average bee will only make half of a teaspoon of honey in its life. A honey bee visits fifty to one hundred flowers during a collection trip. A honey bee can fly for up to six miles and as fast as fifteen miles PH.
When collecting nectar bees prefer to collect nectar in the spring because there would be more pollen in the flowers in Spring. Then they use their straw like tongues also called a proboscis to suck the nectar to store in their stomachs.
Bees store honey in their stomachs so it is easier to take it back to the hive. This makes it easier so bees don’t drop it when they are flying .
Once they’re at the hive the enzymes and protein mixes with the stored nectar to turn it into honey. This is then passed through different worker bee mouths until it becomes sticky. The bees then start flapping their wings to dry the honey. When it is dry they seal the honey comb with wax to keep it clean
Then after it is ready beekeepers collect honey from hives and prepare it for sale.
I am most proud of how I spelled everything correct. I think I could improve by using a bit more descriptive language. Have you ever written an explanation piece of writing?
